What to see in Amman?

The Citadel
The Citadel is located on top of the hill Jebel Al Qala’a and overlooks the old city. It dates back to the Bronze Age but has undergone many additional reconstructions during the Iron Age, Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad eras. As well as seeing the ancient ruins at this site you can enjoy the stunning panoramic views over Amman which are spectacular.
Things to look out for at the Citadel:
Roman Amphitheatre
A visit to the theatre is like going back 2,000 years in time. It is incredible to imagine 5,000 people being sat in this theatre which is still used today for theatre events! It was built in the style of Roman theatres and has three levels with each section being divided by class and rule with seats at the front being reserved for rulers.
King Abdullah I Mosque
This mosque was built by King Hussein bin Talal who dedicated it to his Grandfather, the first King of Jordan. Here you can admire the lavishly decorated interior or visit the museum inside and see the Kings collection of personal items as well as ancient pottery and coins.
The Jordan Museum
This museum is a great way to learn all about the history and the culture of Jordan in an in-depth way. There is an extensive collection of artefacts and gems, as well as the oldest human statues in human civilisation, dating back to 7500BC.
Rainbow Street
This is one of the most famous streets in Amman and there is so much to do on this street, you can shop, dine, drink, and people-watch! It is worth a stroll down this street whether you go at night or during the day it is a great way to experience the bustling life of Amman.

How to get there?

Amman is well connected with the rest of Jordan so you will have no difficulties getting here. You could take a flight Aqaba if this is where you arrive in Jordan. Or you can easily get a JETT bus from Petra or Aqaba or even take a taxi from the city you’re in to Amman.

How to travel around Amman?

If you choose to rent a car, like in most major cities, you will experience a lot of traffic jams, especially during rush hours. One thing that you should be extra cautious about is other drivers. Drivers often don’t use their indicators so many cars will merge in front of you out of the blue. In rush hour traffic, lanes are more a suggestion and you will find yourself on a three-laned road, where cars form five lanes.

If you don’t feel comfortable driving around Amman then you can easily get a taxi off the street or order an Uber.

Where should you eat?

Of course, one of the best things about Amman is the food. You can find just about any type of food you’re craving, and it’s all delicious. Whether you want to try traditional Jordanian dishes or something a little more familiar, you’ll be able to find them in Amman.
If you are stuck of where to eat why don’t you try:

Khashouka – It is located a slight distance out of the centre of Amman but so worth the journey. You can eat falafel, hummus, mutabbal and all sorts of other delicious Arabic food.

Hashem – This is one of the oldest and best-loved restaurants in Amman. It is a simple bistro but boasts good quality traditional Jordanian food.
