Top things to do:

1. Monteverde & Santa Elena Cloud Forest
Costa Rica’s cloud forest covers 1% of the global woodland. It is a unique forest where the atmospheric conditions allow for consistent cloud cover. Here you can wander through the hazy mist and trailing foliage and listen to the mysterious call of rare birds. This incredible experience literally allows you to walk amongst the clouds. There are clear paths in the forest and it is signposted along the way so don’t worry about getting lost! If you manage to travel here on a clear day then you may even see fantastic views of the Arenal Volcano. Make sure to bring suitable footwear and a raincoat as it can get very wet and muddy.

It is up to you which forest you choose to visit as both offer a similar wildlife and woodland experience. If you wish to give some money back to the community then I would recommend visiting Santa Elena Cloud Forest. It is cheaper, offers student discount, and also has far fewer tourists visiting so you may have a whole trail to yourself.
How to get here and costs
There is a shuttle bus from Monteverde to Santa Elena Cloud Forest and this costs $2 each way and will pick you up from your hostel/hotel. The entrance fee is $12 for adults or $6 for students.
