Colourful Past
Belize was once the heartland of Maya civilisation, it boasts remnants of majestic temples and cities. European explorers brought waves of colonialism to its shores, leading to conflicts between Spanish and British powers. Eventually, British rule prevailed, shaping Belize’s identity as a British colony known as British Honduras. The scars of slavery and exploitation are etched in its past, yet Belize’s journey toward autonomy persisted. In 1981, it emerged as an independent nation.
