Top Things to do:

1. Arco de Santa Catalina
The Arco de Santa Catalina is one of Antigua’s most iconic landmarks, symbolising the city’s colonial charm and rich history. Constructed in the 17th century, the arch originally served as a passageway for nuns from the Santa Catalina convent to cross the street without being seen. Its striking yellow facade and elegant clock tower make it a perfect spot to photograph. Framed by the majestic Volcán de Agua in the background, the arch provides a picturesque setting.
2. Actenango Volcano
Acatenango Volcano, one of Guatemala’s most breathtaking natural wonders, stands majestically near the city of Antigua. Rising to an impressive height of 3,976 metres, it offers one of the most rewarding and challenging hikes in the region.

To hike this volcano, there are many different options but the most popular is to hike and spend the night up the volcano. You will be able to see the volcano Fuego erupting as it erupts every 15-20 minutes. You can usually book via your hostel/hotel when you arrive. But one company that has good reviews is OX Expeditions. Make sure you have the correct hiking equipment and know what your tour will provide as you may need to buy a sleeping bag beforehand.
3. Iglesia de la Merced
Iglesia de la Merced, a stunning example of colonial architecture in Antigua. This 18th-century Baroque church, with its striking yellow-and-white facade and intricate designs and sculpted figures, is one of Antigua’s most photographed landmarks. The church offers a glimpse into the lives of the Mercedarian monks who once resided there.
4. Iglesia del Carmen
Iglesia del Carmen, although now in ruins, you can still appreciate this church’s former beauty. Built in the early 18th century, Iglesia del Carmen has weathered numerous earthquakes, adding to its character and mystique.
