Ultimate 7-Day Itinerary Armenia

We’ve built this travel guide to cover all the important things we think should be seen in Armenia. If you don’t have a week to explore you can easily break it down into fewer days by just picking what is most important for you to see. However, we recommend spending at least 5 days visiting the most essential parts of Armenia.

Day 1, 2 - Yerevan

Start your trip in the beautiful capital, Yerevan. Yerevan is a great place to dive into Armenian culture. It is located in the South Caucasus, with the iconic Mount Ararat located in the background. There is so much to do in Yerevan, here are the top things you should not miss:
    • Armenian Genocide Museum
    • Matenadaran
    • Cadcade Complex
    • Saint Gregory The Illuminator Cathedral

Day 3 - Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery

Next head to Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery. Garni temple has a well-preserved colonnaded façade, intricate carvings, and the majestic backdrop of the Azat River Gorge. This historic site not only holds religious significance but also offers you a glimpse into the incredible architecture of the bygone era.
 
Geghard Monastery dates back to the 4th century, this UNESCO World Heritage site is known for its unique rock-cut churches. Its chapels are intricately carved into the surrounding cliffs.

Day 4 - Lake Sevan and Dijilan National Park

Now head to Lake Sevan which is often referred to as the “Jewel of Armenia”. Encircled by mountains, Lake Sevan’s serene waters create a striking scenery against the surrounding greenery. Here you can go boating, sunbathe, or even just enjoy a nice drink on a nice summer’s day.
 
If you fancy doing some hiking then why not take a trip to Dilijan National Park from Lake Sevan and enjoy its natural beauty?

Day 5 - Khor Virap and Norvank Monastery

Now it’s time to head to Khor Virap. Khor Virap is an ancient monastery and has a stunning backdrop of Mount Ararat’s peaks. Its roots trace back to the 4th century, making it one of the country’s oldest Christian sites. The head to Noravank
 
Monastery. This is a masterpiece of medieval architecture and spiritual devotion. Dating back to the 13th century, it is renowned for its intricate stone carvings and facades within the Amaghu Gorge.

Day 6 - Tatev Monastery

Take the long journey now to Tatev. Here you can visit Tatev Monastery which overlooks the Vorotan River Gorge and was founded in the 9th century. You can also take a ride on The Wings of Tatev. This is a spectacular aerial tramway, that now offers you a panoramic journey to the monastery.

Day 7 - Travelling back to Yerevan

If you have followed our suggested route at the end of day 7 you will find yourself either in Tatev or Yerevan. From here travel back to Yerevan to take a flight or cross the border by bus or train to Georgia. Or at this point, you could travel onwards to Iran.
