Ultimate 2-Week Travel Guide to Georgia

We’ve built this itinerary to cover all the important things we think should be seen in Georgia. If you don’t have 2 weeks to explore you can easily break it down into fewer days by just picking what is most important for you to see. However, we recommend spending at least 7 days visiting the most essential parts of Georgia.

Day 1, 2, 3 - Tbilisi

Tbilisi, the vibrant capital of Georgia, and one of the best places to start your trip in Georgia! Its charming Old Town has a warm charm, while the ancient Narikala Fortress shows its rich past. As the sun sets, Tbilisi’s nightlife comes alive, so have fun experiencing the techno scene Georgia has to offer.
When you visit Tbilisi, make sure not to miss:

Day 4 - Rabati Castle and Vardzia Caves

From Tbilisi be sure to take a day tour to see the Rabati Castle and the Vardzia Caves.
 
Rabati Castle in Akhaltsikhe, Georgia, is a captivating historical site that has stood for centuries, showcasing a rich tapestry of architectural influences. With its fascinating history and stunning panoramic views, a visit to this well-preserved fortress is an essential part of any Georgian adventure.
 
Nestled in Georgia’s southern landscapes, Vardzia Caves are a historical wonder. This ancient cave monastery, dating back to the 12th century, offers a fascinating journey into Georgia’s history and spirituality. As you explore the honeycomb-like caves, adorned with ancient frescoes and hidden chapels, you’ll also be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding valley, creating a unique blend of history and natural beauty that’s sure to leave a lasting impression.
 
The tour usually takes the entire day so don’t make any other plans.

Day 5, 6, 7 - Kazbegi & Stepantsminda

Next, take a bus up to Kazbegi. This journey may take a while as Kazbegi is located in the mountains. If you take a tour or rent a car, you can stop off at sites such as the Panorama of Zhinvsli Resovoir the Georgian-Russian Friendship Monument. In Kazbegi, you can enjoy the incredible views, hiking and visit the Gergeti Trinity Church.

Return to Tbilisi for the night so you can get up early and take a propeller plane to Mestia.

Day 8, 9 - Mestia

Mestia is nestled in the breathtaking Svaneti region of Georgia. The town is surrounded by towering, snow-capped peaks, making it perfect for hikers. Mestia’s well-preserved medieval defensive towers, UNESCO-listed Svanetian architecture, and vibrant local traditions make this a fascinating destination. The main thing to do here is hiking, so make sure to pack your walking boots for this beautiful destination.

Day 10 - Kutaisi

To travel to Kutaisi, you can take another propeller plane from Mestia to here.
Kutaisi is the second-largest city in Georgia. The vibrant local markets, authentic cuisine, and warm hospitality of the people make Kutaisi a must-visit destination. Additionally, Kutaisi is located close to natural wonders like the Prometheus Cave and the Okatse Canyon which are worth the visit if you have time!
 
You should also take a trip to visit some attractions close to Kutaisi such as:
    • Montsameta Monastery
    • Gelati Monastery
    • Bagrati Cathedral

Day 11, 12 - Batumi

Next, take a train or bus to Batumi. Batumi is a city located on the Black Sea. Its skyline has contemporary skyscrapers and elegant Belle Époque architectural wonders. Visit the city’s palm-lined boulevards, picturesque parks, and the iconic Batumi Boulevard. Whether you visit Batumi to relax, sightsee or enjoy the Black Sea, it will not disappoint you!

Day 13 - Gori and Uplistikhe

From Batumi take a bus or train to Gori. Gori is most famous for being the birthplace of the former Soviet Union dictator Joseph Stalin. Here you can learn all about the former Soviet Union and Stalin’s life in the brilliant Stalin Museum as well as view the panoramic views of this beautiful city’s ancient fortress. Don’t forget to visit the famous  ancient rock town Uplistikhe
Take a train back to Tbilisi and spend the night there.

Day 14 - Tbilisi

If you have followed our suggested route at the end of day 14 you will find yourself in Tbilisi. From here you can either take a flight back home. Or you could travel onwards to Armenia or other neighbouring countries.
